How to Use Prescale?

Fujifilm pressure measurement film is an easily operated unique tool to measure the pressure of the surfaces. It shows the precise comparative measurement of distributed pressure between two matings, contacting, and impacting surfaces. You can quickly check pressure distribution or surface pressure uniformity by using PRESCALE.

STEP 1
Cut the Prescale film or Presheet into the desired size.
STEP 2
Insert the Prescale film between the surfaces you need to measure, and apply pressure.
STEP 3
Remove the Prescale film or sheet and check the color density visually.

For two-sheet films, ensure that the matte sides of both films are positioned facing one another.

How It Works

Two-Sheet Type (5LW-MW) Composed of Two Kinds of Films
A-film: PET base material coated with color-forming material (microcapsules).
C-film: PET base material coated with color-developing material.

The coated sides of each film (color-forming and color-developing) must face each other. These are the sides with the matte finish. When pressure is applied, the microcapsules are broken and the color-forming material transfers to the color-developing material and reacts, thereby generating a red color.

A color-developing material and color-forming material (microcapsules) are coated, one above the other, on a single base material (PET base).

When pressure is applied, the microcapsules are broken and the color-developping material absorbs the color-forming material and reacts, thereby generating a red color.

What is Fujifilm PRESCALE film?

PRESCALE is a pressure-sensitive film that changes color according to the amount and distribution of applied pressure, providing a clear visual map of contact uniformity.

How does it work?

The film contains microcapsules that burst under pressure, releasing a color-forming agent. The color density increases where pressure is higher, making it easy to see uneven load or gaps between surfaces.

What are common applications for PRESCALE?

PRESCALE is widely used in automotive, packaging, medical, electronics, and tooling industries to verify uniform pressure in gaskets, laminations, molds, heat-seals, and roller systems.

What pressure ranges can it measure?

PRESCALE covers a wide range from approximately 0.2 to 300 MPa (30 to 43,500 psi), depending on the film grade selected. Each grade is designed for a specific pressure range.

Can films be reused?

No. PRESCALE films are single-use only. Once the microcapsules rupture and the color develops, it provides a permanent record of pressure distribution.

What types of surfaces can it be used on?

PRESCALE works on most flat or slightly curved surfaces, including metal, plastic, glass, or rubber. It’s flexible enough to fit small gaps or complex shapes where sensors can’t reach.
